Hidden Amethyst Ring

Friday, October 31st, 2008

This ring is truly unique.  A 1.5 carat princess cut diamond set in 14k white gold with a surprising twist.  We set princess cut amethysts upside down underneath the ring.  Setting these stones proved to be a challenge but the end result is spectacular.  Truly a one-of-a-kind ring!

I just picked up the ring.  I cannot put into words just how thrilled I am with the final product.  She is soooooo completely thrilled with it.

She said that about 30 people stopped her at her store yesterday and wanted to look at it. Everyone that sees it says that it is the most beautiful ring they’ve ever seen.

Dress Up with Cufflinks

Monday, October 27th, 2008
The term cufflinks was coined in the 1600s, when men used links of chain with a button on one end to secure the cuffs of their sleeves. Cufflinks may not ever see a return to their mid 1900s popularity, when millions of pairs were sold annually by jewelry and accessory companies such as Swank, Inc., but they have been trending upwards in recent years now that more men’s shirts have cuff slits to accommodate them. Cufflinks aren’t reserved for men — women will appreciate the endless styles that are available, which range from subdued to funky (the millefiori cufflinks in this collection are a unisex style).

Tips Before Starting

Before jumping into this project, there are a few tips I’ve collected while making a number of these. First, there are different ways you can go about the sewing of the pouch. You can use a sewing machine, sew by hand, or use fabric glue. I pulled out my sewing machine, and I created an assembly line. This allowed me to construct a number of pouches at one time. This saves time for a number of reasons. First, if you are like me and don’t keep your machine out all the time, you save the time it takes to set up your sewing equipment. Secondly, when you feel like making a Ribbon Amulet, you just have to pick up a pouch and start beading.

Halloween Clip Art Available

Friday, October 24th, 2008
If you are looking for some Halloween clip art for your crafting needs, check out the About.com Clip Art site for images like the witch on a broom with moon pictured. You can use clip art for all kinds of crafting, but you can also use it for mixed-media jewelry making as well.

Resin, of course, is the first technique that comes to my mind when I look at something like this. You could use the basic instructions from my Halloween Resin Cabochons project. The stickers I used were not made of paper, but if you were to print up clip art like this on an ink jet printer, then you’d first want to seal the edges of the paper with something like Modge Podge to prevent the ink from bleeding when you put it in the resin. For a mold, consider using an old (not to be used again) ice cube tray.

Cash For Gold Refiners Seeing Amazing Increases in Business

Wednesday, October 22nd, 2008

Gold prices have never been higher. Many gold refining companies are willing to pay you for old gold that they can turn into an investment opportunity, but this is really an investment that you made and never realized it. You never planned on being able to sell you gold for much more than it was worth when you bought it so now is the perfect time to clean out old jewelry boxes and clean up while you add a few zeroes to the end of your checking account.
